|Plot||An American in Texas is set in late 1990 and early 1991 against the backdrop of the first gulf war. The film explores and refutes the myths that are taught to us about God, country, and patriotic fervor. Tracking the lives of five youths (Chad Hill, Billy Franklin, Paul Haynes, Zach Davis, and Kara Doonan) who are surrounded by a culture alien to them, An American in Texas provides an alternative narrative to late 20th century US society. It paints a picture of youth's desire to carve out a destiny free from the constraints of conformity and marketed, commercial homogenization. To thine own self be true is the mantra of our characters' lives. Flush with anti establishment philosophy, music, and culture of the time, the film tells the story of lifelong friends as they reach the cusp of adulthood and must decide between the hollow values of corporate war mongering and careerism or the narrow way of individualism and freedom.... search for An American in Texas on IMDb|
