|Plot||In the Indigenous community of San Isidro in Ecuador's highlands, schoolchildren go to the village chapel each week to participate in 'the catechism'. Attendance at these prayer-sessions prepares youngsters (catequistas) for confirmation and communion in the Catholic Church. Some of these short rituals of thanksgiving were filmed, and later the young characters and recitations were collated in this short picture of prayer, repetition, memory and candle-light. The catequistas chose their prayers and locations; the film's editor provided technical support and operation. Invocations stumble, lilt and reappear. There are no subtitles, instead the intonation and melody of the voices - along with the surrounding pauses and breaths of each incantation - indirectly ask us about learning and teaching, youth and adolescence, devotion, discipline, belief and inheritance.... search for Catequistas: The Young Pray on IMDb|
