Plot Chick opens on a small rural Canadian chicken farm in 1967. The story centers around a thirteen year old girl, Hannah, who spends her birthday playing with her best friend, Geenie. Throughout the day Hannah must attend to the duties of farm life set out by her strict but loving father, Ivan. The story evolves into present day, Hannah is packing chicken parts in the meat aisle of a large and empty supermarket in New Westminister.
