Plot Suriname is part of the Guiana Shield, a tropical wilderness spanning six countries in South America, which contains about 25% of the world's remaining intact forest and produces as much as 10--15% of the world's fresh water. With more than 90% of its land covered by pristine forest, Suriname presents exciting opportunities for green development. The country's wealth of fresh water could be a huge economic benefit into the future. For that to happen, we need to protect the forests and watersheds that make the fresh water.
